5 ways to keep motivated whilst homeschooling

Are your kids getting bored during homeschooling? Acting as both parent and teacher can prove a tumultuous task, especially when it is challenging to motivate them.

When it comes to educating your children yourself, it is important to have a detailed plan to keep the day on track. Here are five ways to keep your kids motivated while learning at home.

1. Have a dedicated Learning Space

Setting aside a dedicated learning space is critical for any child. This dedicated space should be welcoming, quiet, and free of all possible distractions. You could allow your child to personalise this space for them to look forward to being there every day.

Although every home and circumstance may vary, a dedicated workspace for your child does not have to be expensive. You can use tables and chairs that you already own or purchase cheap ones online. As long as the space is personalised and quiet, it should encourage your child to remain focused.

2. Have a set Routine

Routine is vital in all of our lives, and our children are no different. It is essential to create little routines to help your child begin their schoolwork and remain focused and engaged throughout the day.

A lack of routine could turn the day sour in a matter of minutes. However, it is important to have a small schedule and not replicate the rigorous school schedule at home. Once your child is in their routine, it will make learning from home much easier for everyone.

3. Take Breaks Regularly

It is important to encourage your child to take breaks throughout the day, similar to break times at school. It is recommended that your child take a small break every half-hour, even just for a few minutes. Breaks are crucial for kids, even in a home learning environment, because it helps them learn better.

These breaks could include taking walks or going to the park with your child, anything to shift their focus from school to play temporarily. This will allow their brain to refresh, and they will be more engaged in their studies and increase their academic performance.

4. Don’t take on too much at once

You shouldn’t overload your child with too much work, as they will not remain focused and will drift off task. Instead, you should break up these tasks into small increments to be easier to complete and much more manageable.

Mixing things up within your routine and making learning more relaxed can help break the monotony. Using fun word tools for kids that help teach spelling can make tired educational activities fun again. Join your child to play word games, and if you get stuck, use an anagram solver. Prioritize fun over academics, even when you’re accomplishing both.

5. Consult with teachers

Although you may be learning remotely, it is essential to note that your child’s teacher is only an email or phone call away. Consulting with your child’s teacher is vital to measuring what type of progress your child is making.

Keeping your child focused at home can be difficult. However, it is manageable if the correct steps are taken to keep your child engaged and excited to learn.

If you are experiencing difficult behaviour then don’t worry you’re not alone and it is normal under the current circumstances. The linked post might help you.
